Zooey Deschanel Sues Steve Madden for $1.5 Million

Zooey Deschanel is suing shoe mogul Steve Madden for $1.5 million after Madden reportedly backed out on a legally-binding oral agreement to endorse a “Zooey’s Shoes and Accessories” line.

According to the lawsuit, Deschanel made the $2 million deal in August, but the amount was lowered to $1.5 million after lack of retailer support led to renegotiations. Deschanel’s agent backed the new agreement, which reportedly stated she would get paid whether or not the line was ever produced.

Madden’s company, however, announced their decision to abandon the line in October and is now refusing to pay Deschanel the amount she is owed by the terms of the contract.

Since the agreement was oral (and no papers were signed), it might be difficult for Deschanel to prove that the contract did in fact exist.

Readers, do you think Madden will settle? And does Deschanel deserve the money?

Au Revoir, Carine! French Vogue Editor To Step Down After 10 Years

French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld surprised everyone in the fashion world today by announcing that after 10 years, she would be stepping down from her position at the magazine. Roitfeld did not give a reason for her departure, though many who know her suspect that Roitfeld did not want to fall into a monotony. Fabien Baron, former creative director of French Vogue, said that Roitfeld is "the type of person who feels that if she's getting into a routine, she's not going to stick around."

Roitfeld, 55, is credited with increasing sales of French Vogue as well as making the magazine more appealing to those interested in fashion. Though once known as being intellectually dense, the magazine is now considered edgier than its American counterpart, frequently featuring nude models and controversial photo spreads.

Roitfeld said that though she plans to stay on board until the end of January in order to complete the April issue, she has no further plans. Those close to the editor, who is a former stylist, predict that she will take more styling jobs or possibly work with a designer.

Movie Minute: Tron Legacy 3D

Disney's Tron: Legacy 3D opened with a $3.8 million after a midnight premiere. Even more impressive is that 25% of the revenue came from IMAX showings. This figure beats even Avatar's numbers.

The futuristic thriller stars Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn, who must enter the digital world to save his father, Kevin Flynn.

Jeff Bridges, who plays Kevin, also appears in the movie as a younger version of himself and as Clu, a digital clone who is intent on taking over the real world.

The movie is groundbreaking in the same way the original was in 1982. The special effects (specifically the digitally de-aged Bridges as Clu) can be clumsy, but the world of Tron is immersive and thrilling. Olivia Wilde plays Quorra, and the romance, while not necessarily plausible, is charming enough. The movie is worth seeing in 3D -- It's used tastefully and makes certain scenes simply jaw-dropping.

Have you seen the movie yet? What are your thoughts?

British newspaper The Sun reports that Taylor Swift’s rumored boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal bought her a six-string Gretsch signed by country star Chet Atkins as a 21st birthday present.

Reportedly, Gyllenhaal bought the Fender guitar after Swift expressed interest in it when the couple went to a music store in Nashville together.

Bold And Beautiful: Pantone Predicts Official Color Of 2011

The Pantone Color Institute, who is responsible for color crazes in the fashion and home interior industries, has announced the hot color for 2011: a reddish-pink hue named "Honeysuckle."

Whereas 2010's color, turquoise, was meant to have a calming effect due to the economic stress of that year, Honeysuckle will lift spirits and get everyone out of the slump we've been in!

Pantone executive director Leatrice Eiseman claims the color "says we need to be hopeful and think of things that satisfy as many senses as we can." Indeed, its namesake flower is visually stimulating, smells wonderful, and contains a sweet nectar that many find to be a tiny treat in the summertime.

The color is already gaining popularity among designers, showing up in the collections of Marc Jacobs, Monique Lhullier, Christian Dior, and Christian Louboutin.

Monique Lhullier Pre-Fall 2011

Spokesperson Claire Danes Reportedly Suffers Side Effects from Latisse

An anonymous source spoke to Page Six yesterday concerning Latisse spokesperson Claire Danes, and the post is bringing into question the potential side effects of the drug.

Danes admitted in a video diary that she had experienced some redness around the application site on her eyes, but that since then there had been no side effects.

The source, however, claims differently - stating that Danes' makeup artist "has to plaster on concealer to cover the purplish and yellowish shade."

A spokesperson for Latisse stated that Danes' team had not come forth to Latisse about any skin hyperpigmentation. A rep for the actress quickly followed suit, telling Page Six, "Your claims are entirely false. We will pursue legal action if you print anything to the contrary. This story should be killed."

Regardless of whether or not Danes did experience some hyperpigmentation, there is already negative buzz in the blogger community concerning the product. Anonymous Fashion PR tweeter NoBtotheS, sent out this tweet Wednesday afternoon: "Is anyone else bummed about this latisse news? 2011 was to have been my year to grow longer, fuller, darker lashes."

Readers, are you more cautious now about trying Latisse? Or is Danes' story just a ill-timed rumor?

Awards Season Shockers: Could Burlesque Win an Oscar?

Taking home an Oscar from the Academy Awards is the highest honor for those in the film industry. Nominees are fairly predictable - high brow films with serious fare and well-regarded actors and/or directors.

One category, though, which allows for some more unusual choices, is "Original Song." The list of 41 contenders for nomination was released today. Included on the list are: "I See the Light" from "Tangled," "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" from "Burlesque," and "Eclipse: All Yours" from "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

The song "Alice," from "Alice in Wonderland" is also on the list. If chosen, this would make Avril Lavigne an "Oscar Nominee."

The official nominees will be released January 25, 2011.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians' Christmas Card

There may not be any tacky sweaters or matching outfits, but the 2010 Kardashian Christmas card proves that this family celebrates the holidays in style.

The photo, released yesterday, depicts all eleven reality-TV stars decked out in couture gowns and suits at Bruce and Kris Jenner’s house.

Kim wrote on her blog that this year’s card “was extra special because we had a new addition to the family… little Mason!”

At just one year old, Mason Disick (son of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick) looks adorable in his pinstriped suit.

Khloe also blogged about the card, saying, “Christmas cards have always been a REALLY big deal in my family ... I’d have to say thought that our card this year might be my favorite.”

Prince William's Engagement Photo Seems Strangely Familiar

Can you say déjà vu? Prince William and Kate Middleton’s official engagement photos, taken last month at St. James’ Palace and released over the weekend, are very reminiscent of those of Princess Diana — right down to the 18-carat diamond and sapphire ring.

The photo above shows Middleton cuddling up next to her royal beau in a pose that bears a strong resemblance to the one chosen by Prince William’s parents.

Middleton is wearing a dress from British brand Reiss paired with an elegant white blouse from British brand Whistles.

Readers, what do you think of the similarity? Do you find it touching, or unsettling?

TMZ reports that super-secret couple Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson has split up.

In a statement, the couple said, "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love, and it's with love, and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."

The split follows on the heels of tween super-couple Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, and is only a few weeks after the break of Courteney Cox and David Arquette in what seems to be an unlucky year for Hollywood love.
