Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2010 Runway

Diane von Furstenberg is by far one of the most talented fashion designers of all time. The patterns and prints she uses accentuates a woman's body beautifully. My mouth dropped when I saw her new spring 2010 collection. Every piece is done exquisitely and I never expect anything less but perfection from this amazing woman.

The gold, brown, and turquoise that are shown throughout the collection is such a welcoming way to enter this upcoming spring. The models looked ravishing as they walked down the runway. I cannot get over how amazing this collection is, and it's definitely one of my favorites this Fashion Week!

Designer Cupcakes....Trick, or Treat???

There is no trick here that's for sure. You don't have to spend your whole life savings on designer items anymore! Swedish Stylist, Lisa Edsaly and Photographer, Therese Algard got their hands dirty in the kitchen and whipped up a batch of designer cupcakes! Yes, cupcakes! The five designers chosen for the yummy treat are: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Agent Provocateur, and Betsey Johnson. As of right now, we don't know if they are available for purchase, but we sure want our hands on those sweets. It definitely makes for a cute birthday idea and a tasty snack!

Jay-Z Shatters Record

Congratulations are in order to Jay-Z for selling over 476,000 units in first week. After having 11 #1 albums, he has officially SHATTERED Elvis’ record of having 10 #1 albums by a solo artist.

This is Jay's 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200. I can only imagine what's next for the mogul.

Catherine Malandrino Spring 2010

The look for Malandrino's spring 2010 collection was BOHO. All done in comfortable spring fabrics Malandrino used lots of fringe, geometric shapes, and much detail to express her line. Jacobs wasn't the only one who thought of using bold colors for the spring! Malandrino shocked us with such rich colors in every one of her pieces. Coppers, teals, and purples were just some of the fantastic colors used for the line.

The runway was filled with cropped jackets, dresses, and jumpers (which are my favorite)! She did a phenomenal job draping the silhouettes and used exquisite shaping techniques for a look no one has seen before. Her collection really knows how to show off a woman's body! Her inspiration behind the line was so well thought and is expressed 100% throughout the entire collection! Overall I loved the look and can't wait to get my hands on a few pieces!!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010

I can honestly say that Marc Jacobs is a mere genius! Innovator should be his middle name. Jacobs has proven time and time again that he knows exactly what he's doing. Always keeping the crowd wanting more, he floored us with his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Plaids, polka dots, and whimsical prints tore up the runway last night at the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fashion Show. Each model that came out showed something different, but yet, all brilliant pieces everyone will be wearing this spring and summer.

The King of Fashion used beautiful, bold colors that will definitely brighten up the streets of NYC this spring. The unusual but outstanding patterns used on blouses and sweaters were the perfect way to WOW the audience. The color didn't stop on the clothes though. The hot pink lips used on the models were a great way to finish the look, and a must have beauty product for the upcoming season!

We at MSMPR love love loved the collection and the fabulous designer behind it all!

PR TIP: What is Public Relations?

What is PR?

· 2 way communication system
· Planned effort to influence opinion through good character and responsible performance based upon mutually satisfactory two-way communication
· The art and science of managing communication between an organization and its key publics to build, manage and sustain its positive image
· Deliberate actions, performance based, designed to be effective, born out of the public interest—align public’s concerns and interests with the organization’s self-interests

Once Upon A Time... this is how it all started.... September 2005

I was a freshman at Fordham Univeristy that year, and everything was new. I was free to be my own person in a big a school, in the big city. My dear friend Evan Soufarapis invited me to my first fashion show ever. I was super excited and looking forward to a great night. Leaving from Chelsea Piers on a cool September night, I boarded a yacht and was off to see an amazing show. I had an incredible seat next to some of New York City's well-known fashion editors, stylists, and (of course) socialites.

From a young age, I knew I was destined to work with people, for people. . . something involving people. I knew that I loved getting to know people and listening to their stories and all about their lives. I knew what I enjoyed doing, who I liked to work with, my weaknesses, my strengths, and what I was good at. Immediately, I knew Public Relations was a field I wanted to pursue. However, it wasn't until that September night on the yacht when I got my first craving for the industry and success. And, there on that yacht, I met one of the women who found that success. There she was, "The" Lizzie Grubman. In short, she is an icon and a name everyone knows. I admire her success and her work ethic. Lizzie Grubman is strong, powerful, and confident. After getting off that yacht in Chelsea Piers, I sensed a calling to do everything she does and more. Seeing her in action truly motivated and inspired me. I consider people like Lizzie Grubman true success stories- people who pursued what they loved to do, and do what they love. After all, that's the most important thing, isn't it? Fame and celebrity are gravy.

PR TIP: NETWORK , NETWORK, NETWORK!!

In the public relations industry your ability to network plays such an enormous role in determining the success of your career. Today's PR agent must always keep in mind the age old adage: it's not what you know, but who you know. Why? Because we want to cultivate relationships with people who have connections to the type of people who can garner interest in our clients. For example, if you are on "friendly" terms with an editor at Rolling Stones you are more likely to get your client an interview with the mag, than if you blindly submitted a press kit. Here are some helpful tips on networking I found on www.101publicrelations.com:

1. Plan in advance who you want to meet during the activity. If possible, have a mutual friend introduce you, so that you come into the relationship with a good recommendation.

2. Be willing to invest 10 minutes with someone before you decide that they're not worth developing a deeper relationship. You'll be amazed at how often you'll find out something 8 minutes into a conversation that will become the networker's dream that you would have never heard if you would have rejected that person after 3 minutes of discussion.

3. Start with getting to know the person. If you introduce yourself, then jump into a sales pitch, you'll be brushed away faster than the dirt on a hardwood floor. Build a relationship of trust.

4. Focus the conversation on them, not you. People love to talk about themselves. Learn something personal about them - get them talking about their family, their interests, their background, in addition to finding out what they do for a living. This tells them that you care more about them than their business.

5. Think about how you can help your new acquaintances to meet their business or even personal goals. Then tell them how you can help them to do that for free. You're not selling your services / products at this point, you're helping...

6. Once everyone seems to be at ease, don't be afraid to confidently tell them what you do, and pass them more information. If done right, they'll be more than happy to learn more.

Between these tips and your own experience, you will find that networking will become easier and easier...
